Lovely farmhouse meal in period plantation homestead. Food was excellent, service was exceptional. Well worth the drive and small wait.

Take a family with empty stomach's and leave with smiles and satisfaction that you ate a staple restaurant for the area. It's a local tradition that has been instilled in many as the spot for Sunday lunch. We always get the roast beef, chicken and turkey. You won't be disappointed.

You can't go wrong with the service and food here. The perfect spot after a long hike, this all you can eat restaurant knows how to cook southern food. There's typically a wait, but that only gives you more time to have an empty stomach.

So you just finished hiking Mcafee Knob, and you're hungry. Well look no further than The Homeplace Restaurant, it's out of this world good, with more than fair prices. This is a family style buffet, you don't even need to leave your seat. Don't be fooled in thinking that because the quantity of food is high that the quality will be lower; everything we ate was delicious. Even if you're not coming off a hike, you should make time to stop in.

The Homeplace Restaurant is a treat. Family style dining mixed with all you can eat. The chicken is delicious. All the food is good. It's reasonably priced.

An old farm house converted to a restaurant where every room is the dining room! Great food with all the fixing of a home meal, and all you can eat! You pick how many proteins you want with the meal, 1,2, or 3. They are deep fried chicken, country ham, and roast beef. (Pork bbq on Thursday only!)Sometimes busy and they dont take reservations, but well worth the wait and drive!

Great food as àlways. A tad on the salty side and the mashed potatoes don't seem real. But still great food that just keeps coming!

The Homeplace is a gem that all of the locals love and all of the thru hikers on the AT can't wait to visit. It is an old farm house nestled in the catawba valley with breathtaking views and amazing homestyle cooking. The fresh hot fried chicken is even better than mama's (but please don't tell her I said that)!

GREAT Southern home cooking! As a good as Grannys! Awesome staff took care of us like we were family. Our rugby team had a scrumptious, bonding meal, on our way home with Bracket Champs trophy! I will be returning every time I visit SW VA!

I was recommended The Homeplace by a few people and was looking forward to trying it. We arrived fifteen minutes before opening and there was already a line. Once they started seating it went relatively fast and since there is one set menu the food came really quickly. The food was delicious we tried all three meats and while all the food was amazing, the chicken was the table favorite as well as the mashed potatoes and coleslaw.The scenery was beautiful and the old house was so pretty. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, the price is right for the fast, hot and delicious food. The perfect phrase to sum this restaurant up would be it's a reminder of Thanksgiving dinner.

First time being here since I was a child. This place is so good it puts cracker barrel to shame. The chicken was my favorite part. Would recommend 10/10

The view alone makes this worth the visit, but the food is wonderful too ! Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. The food is homemade, served home style , hot and delicious. I ate here over 25 years ago and when I heard I was going back to the area I knew I had to go there again ! I know that I will visit every time I'm in the area, which will be more often now.

Traditional comfort food served family style. Every table gets fried chicken and choice of secondary meat Ham or Roast Beef, pulled pork on Thursdays only. Also comes with corn, pinto beans, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, apple butter, fresh biscuits. You get a spread of above and they refill the plates as you want more. This a very poplar destination for Appalachian Trail through hikers and day hikers, students and families from Virginia Tech and locals as well of course. I highly recommend this places!

Great food and prices for what you get.We have been hearing about this place for years and finally decided to check it out. Everyone was extremely helpful and polite. Great scenery as well, and not too far from McAfee knob. This was our first time there, we definitely will be back.

Really unique setting and delicious food, I try and come here as much as I can. It’s an all you can eat served home style restaurant, and it’s all really good quality food. It’s an established place in the country that I don’t see going anywhere for a long time. I’d suggest this for a family get together or for almost any occasion really.

The Homeplace is a kind of hidden gem that mainly locals know about. It's a perfect Southern Comfort Family Style restaurant for groups of 2 - 30. I've been here multiple times and have not been disappointed in the slightest in any of my visits. Be warned, it is extremely popular on the weekends to the point where you want to show up 30 minutes before it opens to get a table

Amazing food and service. 15$ per adult for 2 of three meat options ( fried chicken and option of ham or roast beef) and 7 sides. For a dollar more per person you can have all three meats. They will constantly refill all food until you are done, drinks included.

If you leave hungry it is your own fault. Good food. Move crowd through quickly.

Always worth the wait! Absolutely delicious homemade food! We always visit when we are in town. Make sure that you plan for at least an hour of waiting for a table, but know that it will be worth it!

Great food and service is great as well. I wish I could give it 5 stars, but since it has become a Haven for Virginia tech students, the wait seems longer than it used to. I'm all about getting more business for local businesses, but there is a trend in the area.

We hosted a family celebration here for our son's graduation from Virginia Tech and his commissioning into the Army Reserves - we were 15 people, but had accidentally reserved for 13! When we were being seated we realized the error, and the Homeplace couldn't have been nicer in moving our party to a larger table! The food is delicious and the pricing reasonable! We enjoyed the sweet tea, biscuits, apple butter, cole slaw (really good), and mashed potatoes & gravy. All well-seasoned and tasty. On the meats, the fried chicken was the primary fan-favorite, and the roast beef went quickly, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how tasty the ham was - so good! All in all, I now understand why Homeplace has such an excellent 5-star reputation!

I have very mixed feelings about this place. It's very well loved and, yes, the food is good. All you can eat, so many sides and comfort foods. Once you get seated the service is good too. However, I'm just not sure it's worth the extreme wait times and the increased prices, that no longer include dessert. (Especially if you don't eat meat.) I think it's a place to go for the experience, but just go with the knowledge that you'll probably be waiting a while for a table.

Fresh home cooked food. Choice of three meats or you can get all three. If your plate is empty they will bring more to you until you have had enough. The food is great.

Oh my gawd. The menu is limited but also unlimited! You can just keep piling on the sides lol It was incredible. PRO TIP: Make a reservation!! It can be VERY crowded.

Gosh, live this place! Good old fashioned family style dinner with all the fixins and fried chicken you can eat! Great low key old time live country music playing in the foyer, and an amazing view out front.

Wow. I couldn't stop eating the fried chicken with my bare hands. I also love the mashed potatoes. We've never had a bad meal at The Homeplace. There is a wait, but the grounds are beautiful and the wait is worth it in the end. The food is so good, and the atmosphere is comforting and cozy. It's always special to bring out of town friends and family to eat here.

Excellent homemade/ home-style meals. You have to go there. Cannot say enough about them. Very economical.

Great experience. Food is served family style and bottomless although the menu is shorter. The food reminds me of my grandmother's kitchen table. Staff is attentive and personable. This place is very popular and considered a landmark to many in the area. Stop in and enjoy when you can.

It's like a home cooking. They bring everything out on plates or bowls and u just help yourself. It's like sitting at the dinner table at home. It has a home feeling as well. Bring ur appetite.

Don’t know if it’s worth a drive if you’re not hiking. The food is good, but it’s all pretty standard southern food, nothing necessarily outstanding. Chicken skin wasn’t crispy when we got it, got a bit soggy.

Always the best! Amazing, home-style food, and they just keep bringing it until you explode, leaving nothing but your heaving ribcage and shredded clothing sitting in your seat to indicate another VERY satisfied customer! If you don't love The Homeplace with a full belly, yer mama dropped you on yer head!

Nestled in the mountains of Virginia, an old horse farm. The original home is family style resturant. Very beautiful inside and out. Excellent service, delicious food, very reasonable price. You pick meat from several choices and 5 vegetables, gravy, drinks and biscuits come with. Excellent visit!
